Falling off the fitness bandwagon…

The end of 2009 was so sweet to us, yet the changes that happened caused us to fall off the fitness bandwagon. I started my fitness quest in 2006. At the time, I stopped eating off of the dollar menus at Checkers and Wendy’s and decided to start eating healthy. In addition to these changes, I made sure to exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes. The result…I lost 15lbs.

I was able to keep up these changes for years (although my first winter in MN caused me to backtrack a little). I was able to until the end of last year that is. First, we had an addition to our little family; Zeva. When Zeva came into the picture, we quickly realized that going straight to the gym after work was a no go. We used to leave work at around 5:30pm…get to the gym by 6-6:15 depending on traffic and stay there until 7:30pm. When Zeva joined us, there was no way that we were going to make her hold it…which would have been impossible anyway. Not to mention, it was out of our way to go home and then go back to the gym.

Even with our new challenge, we still managed to make it to the gym every now and then. But then we moved. Now it was really out of our way to go to the gym so we cancelled our membership at Lifestyle Family Fitness. So, we had no gym membership and the holidays were coming up quickly. The hubby faired well during the holidays, although I cannot say the same for myself.

Although I now have a BOSU (begged for it for Christmas), I realize that I forgot how hard it is to work out on your own. In spite of that, I saw a commercial for P90X and wanted it soooo badly. After the hubby and I discussed it, we decided that P90X may not be the best way to go. Although I am sure I will continue to dream about it =D

So our current plan is to go back to the basics and use running together as a fitness plan. We are going to train for a 5K. The hubby has been there and done that, although he never raced. Now I will have to start a plan to run a 5k by June 5th which should not be a problem at all. I plan on using the Couch to 5k plan which is now on podcasts. It is time for me to get back on the bandwagon and get back in shape!!

CL

Our housewarming is coming up in a couple of weeks, so I have been trolling the big CL (craigslist) looking mainly for beds. I wanted a loft type bed for Sierrah’s room and any full size bed for the guest bedroom. I am so excited!! I think I might have scored both for under $250! I also found a few contemporary vases and sculptures on there too.

Since there are tons of flakes on CL,we will see if they actually have what they advertised and will see if the items hold up to our standards. We have also been selling stuff on CL. So I posted Sean’s microwave, his entertainment center, his magnifier lamp….hey, he did not need any of this stuff by the way. I got rid of a lot of my stuff before I moved to Minnesota. =)

We are also excited that the rest of the chairs for the dining room are coming…woo hoo!! And we are going to sit down with a Sandals rep to talk about our honeymoon! We have a ton to do this weekend and I can’t wait!!

The Stand

It should come as no surprise that something capable of stirring your soul should transpire at church, and yet, when it happens you are never really prepared. During service a few Sundays past I was reminded of how simple worship is and of the awesome power that lives in its simplicity. This reminder didn’t come from where you might expect it (the Sermon for you non-churched out there) nor did it come from a prayer, or even a song – it was brought on by a common action that most of us perform dozens of times each day. Let me set the stage. The pastor had just finished delivering his message and was dialing down his closing prayer while the band snuck into place behind him. The lights morphed into the candle glow ambience that reminds us of the One true light that guides us through the darkness as the first chords of a familiar song simultaneously settled upon our bowed heads. In front of me was a woman who is on the last leg of her road, obviously suffering from the costly toll life demands with each passing year. Her knuckles exaggerated by arthritis were shaking with unsteady nerves as she sat quietly, as she had done the entire service, taking in the message. The song (The Stand- by Hillsong) approached its chorus – which is a devotion by the writer offering up the only thing they can in front of the Lord and that is to stand and give themselves completely over to Him. With that the woman, crippled by age, tapped her daughter and with her assistance struggled onto her feet. With the pain of her years weighing her down, she too stood in awe of the Lord, while I stood mesmerized by her simple gesture. Worshipping God doesn’t always require you to read the Bible cover to cover, or anything else made overly complicated by some of the religions of today, sometimes it just requires a simple act of devotion. There is a proverb that states this, “God makes three requests of his children: Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have, now.”

Our Debut!

(hint: its not New Orleans) To us, it represents our goals, our dreams, the places we aspire to, and ultimately the destination thats at the end of all our roads. In turn the rocky road represents our sometimes painful, sometimes joyful, but always interesting journey through this thing called life. And that’s what this blog is going to be about…our life
