Falling off the fitness bandwagon…

The end of 2009 was so sweet to us, yet the changes that happened caused us to fall off the fitness bandwagon. I started my fitness quest in 2006. At the time, I stopped eating off of the dollar menus at Checkers and Wendy’s and decided to start eating healthy. In addition to these changes, I made sure to exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes. The result…I lost 15lbs.

I was able to keep up these changes for years (although my first winter in MN caused me to backtrack a little). I was able to until the end of last year that is. First, we had an addition to our little family; Zeva. When Zeva came into the picture, we quickly realized that going straight to the gym after work was a no go. We used to leave work at around 5:30pm…get to the gym by 6-6:15 depending on traffic and stay there until 7:30pm. When Zeva joined us, there was no way that we were going to make her hold it…which would have been impossible anyway. Not to mention, it was out of our way to go home and then go back to the gym.

Even with our new challenge, we still managed to make it to the gym every now and then. But then we moved. Now it was really out of our way to go to the gym so we cancelled our membership at Lifestyle Family Fitness. So, we had no gym membership and the holidays were coming up quickly. The hubby faired well during the holidays, although I cannot say the same for myself.

Although I now have a BOSU (begged for it for Christmas), I realize that I forgot how hard it is to work out on your own. In spite of that, I saw a commercial for P90X and wanted it soooo badly. After the hubby and I discussed it, we decided that P90X may not be the best way to go. Although I am sure I will continue to dream about it =D

So our current plan is to go back to the basics and use running together as a fitness plan. We are going to train for a 5K. The hubby has been there and done that, although he never raced. Now I will have to start a plan to run a 5k by June 5th which should not be a problem at all. I plan on using the Couch to 5k plan which is now on podcasts. It is time for me to get back on the bandwagon and get back in shape!!
