We finally finished our "Preparing for Childbirth Class". It was super fun! A lot of work, but fun. We learned about labor positions, did a tour of the hospital, did a newborn care class and practiced breathing. We also learned some relaxation techniques. Wow, I said "we" a lot didn't I? I only wish that "we" would both be feeling the pain ::sigh::. Overall it helped me become more confident in my ability to do this, and also Sean's ability to be supportive. He did a really good job in the class.
I have done quite a bit of reading but there were a few things that she mentioned that I did not know about. Like I knew nothing about what they used for an epidural and how that might make me feel. I have to say that I am a bit worried that some epidurals don't work for people (that should be obvious, but I just never thought about it) and that sometimes the epidural only works on one side..yikes! Talking about the epidural reminds me of my mom's birth story. She ended up waiting a long time before deciding to go to the hospital. She opted for an epidural but it ended up being too late. She had me before it kicked in and then was left unable to walk.

Some of the tools that the doula showed up were quite interesting. Like the vacuum that they sometimes use to suck the baby out (if warranted) or forceps. Very interesting. Other things that we should know is that our little one may be blue right after birth or have a pointy head. I would like to believe that I knew all of this, but it was nice to hear it again. We were given so much information, that at times I wondered how we would remember it all.
Overall it was fun times and yet another milestone we have reached. Now we have six more weeks before our little one comes. Any guesses on what day he will be here? I am thinking November 7th or the 9th. :)
